Welcome to Awana!
The acronym stands for “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed”, which relates to a verse from the Bible and is found in 2 Timothy 2:15.  In Awana we play games, learn Bible Verses, and hear Bible stories.  Our plan is to lovingly share with your child what the Bible says about Jesus and salvation.  Our prayer is that your child comes to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, grow in their relationship with Him, and learn to serve Him in their daily lives.

Overview of Program:

Our Clubs meet each Wednesday at 6:30 (please see calendar for dates) in the multi-purpose building.  Children should check-in with our secretary when they arrive.  Please do not drop-off your child before 6:15, as there is not adequate supervision.  The club ends at 8:00 pm and you may pick up your child in the sanctuary.  We recommend that you come into the sanctuary and escort your child safely to the car.  We have our awards assembly each Wednesday night at the end of club, so feel free to come ten minutes early to see your child receive his/her award, if due one.

Financial Details:

Dues and donations help our AWANA Club program remain self-supporting.  Our weekly dues are 50 cents or $13.00 for the entire year.

Each clubber needs to have a handbook and a uniform of either a t-shirt or vest.  An optional handbook bag is available for purchase.  Fees for the needed materials are as follows:

Handbook  $6.00                 Uniform  $10.00                   Handbook Bag (optional)  $5.00

These prices do not reflect the actual cost of these items because FBC Van covers the difference to help support our Awana families. If there is financial difficulty with any of these charges, please let us know.  We are able to offer assistance when needed.  If anyone would like to sponsor a scholarship for this assistance, please contact the church office or an Awana worker.

Expectations of Clubbers & Parents:

All clubbers are expected to take part in the entire program.  Those who have not had a sign-off in three weeks may miss game time to practice and learn a verse for their sign-off.  Parents, please encourage your child by familiarizing yourself with their handbook, and gently reminding them to spend about five minutes each day at home working in their handbooks.  Memorizing scripture is hard work, but well worth the effort because we will be able to carry the word of God in our hearts and minds for the rest of our lives.

To pass a section in the handbook, no more than two helps are allowed.  Helps are one to three words.  The reference is part of the section verse and should be stated before or after the verse.

Tennis shoes are needed for game time.
